#SIUDAY March 1, 2017
The College of Science is a dynamic community of faculty, undergraduate and graduate students dedicated to the study of physical, biological and the information world. This community continues to focus on the development of new knowledge bases in these areas of inquiry and the education of students and the public about the tools of science and discoveries being made at SIU and in the broader community of sciences. The College plays a critical role in furthering scientific education throughout the University and raising awareness of science and science education throughout the region.
Your contribution is an investment in our students’ success. We are thankful for your generosity.
The Giving Day priorities for Science are as follows:
Science Undergraduate Student Scholarship Fund: This scholarship will allow the College to award scholarships to high-achieving students at all levels from freshmen to seniors. Scholarship recipients will be expected to engage in joint professional development activities including a scientific writing workshop, poster preparation for highest impact and a short course on giving seminars.
Science Undergraduate Summer Research Award: This will be used to fund 5 full-time undergraduate researchers during the summer semester. This would be a competitive award that would culminate in a joint symposium at the end of the summer.
Science Undergraduate/Graduate Student Travel Awards Fund: This award would fund undergraduate/graduate travel to present their research/scholarly activities at regional and national conferences. Preference would be given to invited presentations with additional preference given to oral presentations versus posters. Supporters of these awards would thus foster the professional development of student researchers and enhance their networking opportunities.
