The College of Agricultural Sciences is where science and technology, business and farm management, education and production, public policy and public health, conservation and resource management converge. This is truly a college that knows no bounds with classrooms that include University Farms, a unique, 2,000 acre, on-campus working farm and forest system, serves as a major agricultural research and education laboratory.  Showcasing the best in traditional agricultural education and new research, University Farms offers:

  • Over 600 acres of row crop research and production
  • Over 120 acres hay production for livestock
  • Approximately 300 acres of pasture for Animal Centers
  • Approximately 1,000 acres of forest and watershed areas used for research and teaching

The college also utilizes the vast resources of the Shawnee National Forest, and access to specialized farming including Southern Illinois' wine and fruit country.

 

The central purpose of the College is to focus on the critical issues in agriculture, food, and forestry in the region, in the State of Illinois, and especially those issues that are applicable worldwide.  The College is made up of four departments: Agribusiness Economics, Animal Science, Food and Nutrition, Forestry, and Plant, Soil & Agricultural Systems.  The College provides academic instruction to nearly 900 undergraduate and graduate students.

College of Agriculture Dean's Development Endowment Fund: Enhance and further the mission of the College of Agricultural Sciences.

University Farms General Fund:  Provide general operation expenses related to the University Farms.

Undergraduate Teaching and Research Greenhouse Facilities Fund:  Improve the core learning facilities for the Plant & Soil Science Program.

Agriculture Sciences Events and Activities Fund:  Support student and recruitment events/activities for the College of Agricultural Sciences.

FFA Officer Scholarship Fund:  Provide scholarship support for state officers within the FFA organization to attend SIU College of Agricultural Sciences. 

Agbassador Program: Support the Agbassador Program.

Alpha Gamma Rho Scholarship Fund:  Celebrating it's 50th year!  Supports scholarship and professional development of College of Agricultural Sciences students.

College of Agriculture - Agribusiness Economics Development Endowment Fund​:  Enhance and further the mission of the Agribusiness Economics program.

College of Agriculture Animal Science Endowment Fund:  Enhance and further the mission of the Animal Science program.

College of Agriculture - Forestry Development Endowment Fund​:  Enhance and further the mission of the Forestry program.

College of Agriculture - Plant and Soil Science Development Endowment Fund:  Enhance and further the mission of the Plant, Soil, and Agricultural Systems program.

Agricultural Sciences Student Emergency Fund:  Used to support students who need emergency funding, supporting student retention in the College.  

College of Agricultural Sciences Scholarship Endowment Fund​:  Provide scholarships to College of Agricultural Sciences students.

Gil and Jean Kroening Activities Match
Gil Kroening, retired dean emeritus of the College of Agricultural Sciences, and his wife, Jean, have established a dollar for dollar matching gift for up to $1000. Gil was a member of the agriculture college’s inaugural graduating class in 1959 and 1974 became the college’s second-longest serving dean.

Compeer Financial regularly collaborates with others who are also dedicated to agriculture and rural America. They have a agreed to match dollar for dollar up to $2,500 to the Agbassadors Program. The Agbassadors represent the College of Agricultural Sciences as a student recruitment organization comprised of outstanding students selected by faculty, administrators, and students. They serve as speakers for groups, present at high schools and community colleges, and attend career fairs and open houses. The Agbassador team provides information about new opportunities in agriculture and related occupations to those interested in technology, science, business, education and many other fields.
