On Day of Giving 2019, Strong Survivors (http://strong-survivors.siu.edu/) targeted raising funds for the renovation of Davies 123/124 for the new Strong Survivors Cancer Rehabilitation Lab (CRL). Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we were successful in our efforts and the renovation work was recently completed. On Day of Giving 2020, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting a Grand Opening of the space at 5 PM. In addition, we will be continuing our efforts to raise funds to secure the rights to name the new facility after Dr. Anton’s (Strong Survivors Director) cousin, Julie Honerkamp, the inspiration for the program http://strong-survivors.siu.edu/about/julie.php. It would be a wonderful way to honor the legacy of her bravery, toughness, and enduring spirit and all funds raised would go toward the administration of the Strong Survivors program (maintenance of the facility/equipment, support of the participants, support of the staff members whose efforts benefit participant quality of life, etc.). If you support this effort, please add 'Julie Honerkamp Naming Effort' where allowed when you make your donation.
Thank you in advance for your generous support!
Dr. Phil Anton and the Strong Survivors Participants and Staff
The Strong Survivors Exercise and Nutrition Program for Cancer Survivors and Caregivers utilizes exercise as a therapeutic tool to help cancer survivors and caregivers get through the treatment and recovery process. Exercise programs are individualized for each participant and are based on medical and fitness histories, initial fitness assessment results, and quality of life goals. The programs are created and administered by SIUC students who serve as the participant’s personal trainer/exercise test technician.
