Below you will find answers to many common questions about SIU Day Of Giving.
What is #SIUDay?
#SIUDAY is the annual giving day for Southern Illinois University. This 24-hour campaign is a university-wide effort to inspire alumni, students, parents, friends, and the larger community to make a gift to any area of campus. The goal is to bring the entire community together so we can all help this effort by sharing, following and financially supporting SIU. The theme is "1 vision. 24 hours."
When is SIU Day of Giving?
It will be from 6 a.m. CST Wednesday, March 4, through 6 a.m. Thursday, March 5.
Why should I participate in #SIUDAY?
Philanthropy has never been more important than it is now. Private support from alumni, friends and others helps fund scholarships for students who otherwise might not have access to higher education. Support from philanthropic sources also funds program enhancements and hands-on learning experiences for students. Giving back and paying it forward is one of the greatest things we can do for SIU.
How can I make my gift?
Just visit siuday.siu.edu on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, and find the area and priority you wish to support.
Is it safe to make an online gift?
Yes, SIU takes significant measures to ensure that all donor information is safe and secure. When you make a gift at siuday.siu.edu, and you provide your credit card information, everything is processed through CyberSource, which is a secure payment processing gateway. We place the highest priority on the confidentiality of donor information. You will receive an email receipt soon after you make a gift on the Day of Giving.
Is it possible to make my gift by mail or by phone?
Since it's a 24-hour effort, we encourage you to make your gift online. You can also call 618-453-4900 and make a gift. Sending in your gift by mail will also have an impact as long as you make a note indicating that this is for the SIU Day of Giving.
What areas can I support?
We have done our best to include many academic and campus life departments that our alumni and friends will consider supporting. Please review the participating groups on our main page and find the priority listing that is near and dear to your heart. You can designate your gift to any area of the university that is important to you. Whether you are passionate about your college/department or you have an interest in a specific research initiative or student program, you are free to designate your gift to that program. If you don’t see a specific fund you are interested in supporting, you can select “Other” and still make your gift.
What if I don't see my school/organization in the list of participating groups?
If you do not see this on the platform, please select “Other” and include the program/fund name you wish to support in the comments section. We will make sure your gift is designated to the area of your choice.
What are Matching and Challenge Gifts?
Matching gifts help encourage greater participation and larger gifts to the university. They provide buoyancy and a sense of urgency that frequently prompts action on the part of potential donors. These also provide donors the opportunity to double the impact of their contribution.
Please note that only gifts made on #SIUDAY will be eligible for the Match and Challenge opportunities. Please keep checking siuday.siu.edu to stay updated on the status of these matching challenges.
What other ways can I get involved?
You can help us spread the word! We have only 24 hours, and our goal is to reach as many donors as possible during this time. The best way to do this would be to participate online by posting and sharing this on your favorite social media platforms with the hashtag #SIUDAY. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for the latest updates on #SIUDAY. You can also assist by becoming an ambassador.
Are gifts tax-deductible?
Yes. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Once you make your gift, you will receive an email confirmation that your gift has been received. A printed gift receipt will be mailed within 7-10 business days.

I would like to give offline. How do I participate?
